Samburu National Reserve is approximately 350 kilometers from Nairobi. It lies a few miles from the equator making one of Kenya’s hot and semi-arid places—the Samburu National Reserve borders Buffalo Springs and Shaba National Reserve. The Reserve supports animals that adapt to dry, hot, and rocky landscapes. Samburu National Reserve has a history of famous Joy Adamson raised and natured Elsa, the lioness whose story featured in the best-selling book and movie “Born Free,” which made the Reserve more famous.
Samburu National Reserve is undoubtedly among Kenya’s most famous National parks and has become very busy with new visitors every year.
The Samburu park is named after the Samburu people, nomadic pastoralists whose tradition is considered delicate and beautiful. The Samburu live in a village with their cattle, goats, and donkeys and move according to the green pastures of the animals.
The park is famous for camel safari, where you are led by an experienced camel guide searching for wildlife, making it a unique safari style.
Samburu National Reserve is home to the famous lioness by the name Kamunyak that adopted six orphaned Oryx calves. The Reserve was also home to George Adamson, who raised a lioness, Elsa, who was the main focus in the best-selling book and award-winning movie ‘ Born Free.’

Hiking and cycling is the most widespread sport of the year. It includes team building, hiking, racing, and mountain cycling. The cyclists are generally expected to obey the rules of the mountain and respect the foot climbers as they enjoy mountain cycling and wildlife.
Mountain bikes have drop handlebars and multiple gears, although single and fixed-gear varieties exist. Mountain bikes also use narrow, high-pressure tires to decrease rolling resistance and tend to be somewhat lighter than other types of bicycles. The light weight and aerodynamics of a mountain bike allow this type of bicycle to be the second most efficient self-powered means of mountain climbing sport, behind only recumbent bicycles due to the latter’s higher aerodynamic efficiency. In addition, this type of bike is easy to reach the crater rim.
The tours and safaris involve the famous 7th wonder of the world, which is found in Kenya. The impressive wildlife migration is based in Masai mara. Thousands and thousands of wildebeest, followed by other animals, move from Masai Mara National Reserve to Serengeti National Park in TANZANIA. The movement is fantastic, especially at the river crossing point. As the wildebeest jumped into the Mara River, crocodiles waited for a catch as the lions followed the migration. The river is a point of no return; either jump or risk retreating to the lions. The wildlife is too many such that it can take the whole month. Once the wildebeest make a crossing path, they will follow suit till the end. So the tourist is stuck every day watching the game of the crocodile, the wildebeest, and the lions; the opportunist hyena is included.
